Micro Mention "Where Darkness Meets Light"

Sabrine Elouali

I'm not a poet myself, but as an amateur who can appreciate it, I feel that Sabrine Elouali's poetry in "Where Darkness Meets Light" can speak movingly to anyone who has experienced chronic anxiety or depression. It highlights that feeling of being stuck and learning to move past it.

In my life, I'm lucky to have only suffered one major depressive episode. It was the tail end of 2008, and it lasted until the first few months of 2010. It's funny how I can remember exactly when it started but not quite when it ended. I guess that's the human tendency to remember the negative more than the positive.

What struck me the most about this collection was the universality of Elouali's writing. I've had so many moments while reading it where I thought, "Oh, I've had this moment. I've thought these thoughts." Though I could never put them down quite as eloquently.
