“The Wine Dark Sea,” by Robert Aickman, is named as such as a reference to Homer. Knowing what Homer meant when he coined the term foreshadows what these stories are like in this collection—weird and stormy.
Aickman as a writer, has a style that is just as uncanny as the plots of his stories. While reading this collection of stories, I often felt as if I'd slipped into someone else's fever dream. For me, it's hard to elucidate much more than that.
